Winter Refurfacing

It will be warming up this weekend and we are going to take advantage of the increase in temperatures to do our winter resurfacing. We have found a supplier for large playground-grade mulch chips that will be delivered this weekend. Any volunteers that are free on Saturday morning to help us spread the mulch in the park would be very welcome and appreciated! We will start at 8 am and have rakes, shovels, and wheelbarrows on hand. If you're on Facebook, please let us know you're coming here.

This will be an initial step to stabilize the surface for the winter. Once Spring arrives, we plan to do a more thorough overhaul. This will involve removing the fabric that continues to be exposed and any old and broken down mulch beneath the surface. Going forward, we will then continue to do periodic cleaning and adding of mulch chips as they degrade. We will let everyone know when we have a date for this Spring excavation of the surface and hope that folks will be able to help us out!

December Member of the Month

Congrats to Maria, our Member of the Month! Here is her bio:

I'm a native of Philly and have been living in the Washington Sq. West area for 15 years. A lifelong animal lover, I have three dogs and one cat (who thinks he’s a dog). I'm a professional dog walker, so my home is often filled with not only my own pets but also an ever-changing array of guest dogs. Before I was a dog walker, I was a massage therapist for 14 years and managed a local day spa for 5 years. I've been an avid supporter of the dog park ever since it officially opened in 2007.

I would like encourage everyone who uses the park to become a member and get involved. Also, never forget the unwanted animals that are in our local rescues...please volunteer, donate, be a foster and/or adopt these amazing animals who simply need our love and help.

Holiday Party Rescheduled

The weather outside on Saturday will be frightful, so we'll celebrate delightfully on Sunday instead!

Many of you have probably looked at the forecast for Saturday and discovered that we're expecting more snow. Given the likely weather situation, we are rescheduling the Holiday Party for Sunday, December 15 starting at 11am. We'll have the same great goodies, including pictures with a Santa Paws played by Isaiah Zagar, just a day later! We hope we see you all there!

Upcoming Events:

Park and Neighborhood Clean-up Day

December 7th, 9am-1pm

Many of you may be aware of the clean-up day for the Washington Square West neighborhood that is hosted by the Civic Association each year. This year's clean-up will occur on Saturday, December 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with Seger Park as the operation headquarters. City street sweepers will be out that day working on area streets, and cleaning tools (e.g., rakes, brooms) will be provided for volunteers to use. While we are out helping to beautify the neighborhood, we also plan to do some clean-up work in the dog park before we join the neighborhood clean-up. We will start this mini dog park clean-up at 9 a.m. Many dog owners have participated in the clean-up during past years and we hope that we will see you again this year! New Board's First Meeting

Our newly-elected board members had their first Board Meeting last Friday night. The major topic addressed was the resurfacing of the park. We are currently investigating options to resurface the park in a way that will be longer-lasting than the current set-up. The Board plans to meet monthly and we will keep everyone updated on our progress. In the meantime, you can see the new board positions and members on our Meet the Board page here: http://segerdogpark.org/meet-the-board/
