Our Story

In 2002, a group of passionate dog owners petitioned Philadelphia's Parks & Recreation department and the Seger Advisory Council to build an off-leash dog run at Seger Park. The grassy hill of Seger Park had long been used as a de facto recreational area for canines and humans, but the creation of a dog run would give community members a safe, dedicated space for their pups to play off leash. The Seger Park Dog Owner's Association (SPDOA) was then established as the non-profit organization responsible for upkeep of the dog park.

Years later, our mission is still to ensure that Seger Dog Park remains a safe place for our four-legged friends to enjoy and that it serves as a beautiful addition to our neighborhood. We strive to create a welcoming environment for dog owners by hosting seasonal events and connecting with community members on social media. SPDOA continues to handle the regular maintenance and improvements of the dog run including turf maintenance, cleaning, trash removal, dog bag replenishing, and more.
